I'm back on my back attached to a drip, getting Infliximab pumped into my system so I thought I would give a little update.
This time there was no embarrassing scenes by myself and I was calm for the infusion, which I was happy about. The only annoying thing is that they want to keep me in for another hour after they have finished, which is disappointing as I'm famished and there are all sorts of exciting cakes in the office ready for me to devour them.
Yesterday was rather splendid. At 11am we (Me, Gurj, Vicky, Phil and Andy) all met up by London Bridge station and went round the Dungeons. I didn't know what to expect going around there, but was surprised - and a little disappointed - with how tacky it was. There were actors all dressed up putting on the show and you were ushered from one room to the next at a rather rapid turn of pace. I understand they have a lot of people there and they need to keep up the brisk pace, but it annoyed me. Another annoyance were the ADHD rabble that were in our enlarged group. I wanted to strangle a few of them and I thought a fight was going to break out between them and one of the actors at one point - the actor started slagging off the girls mother (who wasn't there) which was rather off. The actors were all narky and in a permanent bad mood, although I suppose that is understandable when you consider what their job is. It's unlikely they had dreams of working there.
So we were all left feeling a little ripped off (£15 a ticket). However, the Tower more than made up for it. Babs had complementary work tickets which got us free entry. We timed it just right as well as a Warden tour group had just started, so we joined the tour. The warden was fabulous. He hammed up his, well rehearsed, script and you could tell he'd been a Sergent major in the army prior to this for he had a ferocious vocal range. I don't think I'd be able to shout the way he did without damaging something inside me. The tourists (including us!) lapped his performance up and he really added to the place. I was surprised how much was inside and how you could take photos of most things (not the crown jewels but that's not too surprising).
It felt a little strange to be walking around taking photos and having a grand old time when you consider the Tower's history. I can understand why there was so much fear attached to the place. It can't have been pleasant (an understatment to say the least) to have found yourself locked up there back in the day. Mind you, for those that could afford it (Raleigh et al) they had a pretty ace view across the Thames.
We finished the day with a hearty meal at Gaucho, who produce some of the finest steaks i've ever had. It's not cheap but it's worth the price.
I'll upload photos when I get the chance. I think I might have a little snooze now.
Hard life! ;p
